Dripping in corn syrup blood and green goo, tube-ocalypse volunteer Hannah Clark says, “We’re trying to take the world record.” She continues, “Obviously Asheville style, we’re dressed up as zombies.”
The 2.5-mile float began at the French Broad River Park and ended at the Salvage Station where beer and food were available to participating members. No two zombie outfits were alike, but many participants were sporting face paint, fake head wounds and falling eyeballs.
With nearly 300 people registered, the Asheville zombie float fell short of the Guinness Book of World Records current record for “Most People in a Floating Line.” That honor goes to the Harley Owners Group Taiwan Chapter for 634. But this zombie float was organized with in more in mind than just breaking a world record — it aimed to bring awareness to local groups including Riverlink, Western North Carolina Alliance and the Riverkeeper program as well as Asheville Green Works.
