Xpress Playlist: LEAF edition

The 39th LEAF festival rolls around this weekend — it actually kicked off on Thursday for its most dedicated attendees. Dozens of artists perform on six stages around Lake Eden. If you’re planning to go, here’s a sample of the music. And if you missed out on a chance to buy tickets (they’re sold only in advance), you can live-stream the main stage at IamAVL.com. More about that here.

On this week’s playlist:

• “Railroad” by Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn from their self-titled album
• “Snake Charmer,” by HoveyKraft, from Alpha.
• “I Mua,” by Nahko and Medicine for the People, from Dark As Night
• “Waitin for the DJ,” by Talib Kweli (feat. Bilal), from Quality
• “House of Stone,” by Mandolin Orange, from This Side of Jordan
• “My Money Never Runs Out,” by Dom Flemons, from Prospect Hill
• “Gypsy Train,” by Willie Sugarcapps, from the band’s self-titled album
• “High Tide,” by Shannon Whitworth, from her album of the same name

Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we’ve never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.
