VIDEO PREMIERE: “Beacham’s Curve” by Queen Bee and the Honeylovers

The song “Beacham’s Curve,” by local jazz and swing outfit Queen Bee and the Honeylovers, tells of two people who fall in love on the trolly that used to run from Haywood Road to the titular locale.

“Asheville had the first hydroelectric trolly system in the world. The tracks were ripped out in 1934 due to nationwide pressure from oil and car companies,” says front woman Whitney Moore. “I grew up hearing my grandfather tell stories about the thrill of riding on the trolley as a child.”

She decided to use the journey “as backdrop/metaphor for a love song about a same-sex couple,” she explains. “Their relationship, like the hydroelectric trolley was a beautiful thing ahead of its time — a fantasy the world wasn’t ready for in the early 20th century.”

While Queen Bee and the Honeylovers will launch their debut record Asheville — a concept album exploring themes of this city’s history — on Saturday, April 27, the group decided to release it’s romantic first single just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Mark your calendars for the band’s Saturday, April 27, album release show at Isis Music Hall.
