One of the goals of the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville-Buncombe County is to make the local area a hub for entrepreneurs. To that end, they’re organizing a creative event called Ignite Asheville, which the group is promoting as a “Big Idea Competition.”
At the Orange Peel on May 15, speakers from ten local ventures will share insights “during five-minute lightning rounds about their big ideas and how they embrace challenges through ingenuity and collaboration,” according to a press release. The local start-ups being featured include Blue Blaze Soda, The Iron Yard, LoLo and JB Media Institute, among others. A panel of local business leaders will decide which of the local entrepreneurs has the best presentation. The winner will receive $1,000 toward the development of their business idea.
The public is invited to come and “get inspired by these success stories in technology, outdoor apparel, natural performance foods and other Asheville innovations,” the press release continues.
Tickets are $8 for Asheville Chamber Members, $10 for non-Members. The event runs from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and tickets are available here.
Organizers made the following video to explain and promote the event:
