Note: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED BUT WILL BE RESCHEDULED.
Annamaria and Paul Bowman are self-described “vegan empty nesters” who started filling their nest with neglected, abused and homeless chickens in the summer of 2009. Since then, their passion for helping feathered friends in need has grown into a no-kill chicken sanctuary that is home to more than 80 birds.
To help the cause, the Asheville Vegan Society and Katuah Market on Hendersonville Road will host a benefit on Sunday, March 29, 4-6 p.m. The event is intended to raise funds for food, fencing and housing of chickens at the sanctuary and will feature free (vegan) hors d’oevres and nonalcoholic beverages. Wine and beer will be available for purchase.
Vendors offering food and beverage samples include Smiling Hara Tempeh, No Evil Foods, Ulimana, Oskar Blues, Ararat Wine Distributor and Sour Grapes. The event will also feature a silent auction of local art, fine crafts, and other items. Live music will be provided by classical guitarist, and co-owner of Chicken Rescue and Sanctuary, Paul Bowman, according to a press release for the event.
The price of the event is $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 years of age and younger. All funds go directly to the Chicken Rescue and Sanctuary.
Donations to the Chicken Rescue and Sanctuary can also be made by mail. Send checks to 224 South Grove Street, Suite J, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
