The grounds of Pack Square Park became an expo for healthful living on Sunday, Aug. 30, as the 14th annual Organicfest welcomed participants with a cornucopia of ideas, products and services for the organically oriented lifestyle. Organicfest occupied a large footprint, with vendors and festivities extending from Biltmore Avenue down to the stage at the Roger McGuire Green.
The event offered a diverse array of vendors, some of whom were there to provide attendees a chance to sample their products while others promoted social causes such as veganism. Despite overcast skies and a looming threat of rain, vendors reported that the festival was well-attended and sales were brisk.
Organicfest had a very discernible family feel, with several exhibits and activities aimed at children. Sow True Seed offered a chance to make seed bombs, and Pop-up Adventure Playground offered children an opportunity to create their own adventures out of cardboard boxes and a variety of other recycled materials.
Gran Fondo Asheville, a bicycle ride commissioned to benefit the Friends of the Smokies, started and finished at Pack Square Park, sharing the space with Organicfest and allowing riders and their families to enjoy the live music, vendors, massage therapists and kids zone following the ride.
