Fresh, local tomatoes make for great street food, and a tasty feature for sit-down meals: It’s the Thursday, Aug. 20, Tomato Walk, starring local ‘maters and local eats at Bouchon, Early Girl Eatery, Ed Boudreaux’s, Laurey’s, The Lobster Trap, The Market Place, Posana Café and Rosetta’s Kitchen.
From 5 to 7 p.m., Bouchon and Laurey’s will offer street-side tomato samples. The Lobtster Trap will be offering a choice of tomato dishes: tomato tart, lobster gazpacho and a Sangrita cocktail. Early Girl will be dishin’ out the ‘mater gravy for its spinach potato cakes. Tomatoes will be the stars at the other local establishments too. “A wide variety of tomatoes, as well as numerous restaurants, thrive in our region,” says Peter Marks of the Appalachian Sustainable Harvest Project, which is sponsoring the event. The Tomato Walk brings together great chefs and great tomatoes, he says. It’s part of ASAP’s Get Local program.
