Shroomin’: The Asheville Mushroom Club presents a mushroom fair and exhibit at the North Carolina Arboretum on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program will introduce the great variety of fungi growing in Western North Carolina and offer a chance to get outside and explore mushrooms in the landscape.
Small-group collecting forays led by Asheville Mushroom Club members will depart at 10 a.m. Required preregistration will be held in the auditorium between 9:15 and 9:45 a.m. Bring a small knife and collection basket or paper bag with handles.
Mycologist Coleman McCleneghan will speak at 1 p.m. The event is ideal for beginning mushroomers and a great refresher course for old hands.

Wildcrafting: Marc Williams will teach two classes How to Get Food & Medicine from the Wild on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 3:30 to 6 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 8, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The cost is $20 per class or $35 for both.
Sunday’s class will include a plant walk and harvest of plants that can be used for food, medicine or both. Monday’s class covers preparation of a meal from the plants harvested on Sunday. Special attention will be given to developing confidence in the usefulness and abundance of wild-plant resources. Some options may be available for cost reduction on an as-needed basis.
