Tall, slender and exotic: The American Bamboo Society’s Southeastern Chapter will host its second annual Bamboo Festival at the North Carolina Arboretum on Saturday, July 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will include a lecture series, demonstrations, crafts, plant sales and a raffle.

Catching on: After selling 400 rain-barrels in the month of May alone, the Extension Master Gardeners of Buncombe County are hosting another sale.
The 80-gallon barrels cost $110. Orders must be placed by July 25; barrels must be picked up Saturday, August 2.

Primetime gardening: Buncombe County Cooperative Extension Service agent Linda Blue will host her popular “Growing In The Mountains” lecture series on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in August, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Pack Memorial Library in downtown Asheville. The talks are free. Individual sessions will cover everything from planting a fall vegetable garden to maintaining a healthy lawn.
The deep end: Reems Creek Nursery in Weaverville is hosting a water-gardening seminar on Saturday, June 28, beginning at 10 a.m.
