May the forest be with you: The Asheville-based nonprofit Dogwood Alliance cordially invites pretty much anyone with a road bike, tent, sleeping bag and a strong set of legs to join a Blue Ridge Parkway trek in support of the group. The adventure will set off from the Lake Logan Episcopal Center near Canton on Friday, Aug. 24, and will stretch on across two days and 160 miles of cycling through the region’s breathtaking but beleaguered forests. A third day will be given over to paddling local waters. Registration is $90 to cover the expenses of the event plus an “active giving transaction” fee (about $7 per rider). Riders are encouraged to seek $500 in pledges for the event, which will go in support of Dogwood Alliance’s work protecting Southern forests. Visit www.southernforestchallenge.org to get the whole story.
