Give a little: The Mountain Sports Festival wants you to volunteer for the event, scheduled for May 4 to 6 at Carrier Park in Asheville. Help is needed throughout the weekend for tasks as varied as selling refreshments, working at the event headquarters, helping at race locations and setting up and tearing down.
Volunteers who work at least one, four-hour shift get a free MSF t-shirt, refreshments and coveted volunteer parking. To register as a volunteer, visit www.mountainsportsfestival.com, or contact Volunteer Coordinator Cristin Corder at ccorder@ashevillenc.gov.
A Springer in your step: It’s March, and all thoughts are inclined to Springer Mountain, Ga. and the start of Appalachian Trail season. If you’re contemplating the long journey or have hiked it before and are pining for the past, there’s a cure for your condition. A social is planned at Jack of the Wood in Asheville on Tuesday, March 13, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. “Southbounders, northbounders, section hikers, prospective A.T. hikers and friends of the trail are all welcome,” says event planner Leanna Joyner.
If all goes well (and, with beer and conversation, why wouldn’t it?) the group will meet at the Patton Avenue pub on the second Tuesday of each month from here on out.
