Last year Highland turned 20. For the big anniversary the brewery went all out, releasing 20 special beers and hosting a variety of commemorative events.
This year, Highland is shaking things up by celebrating its mascot, Scotty, as he turns 21. After all, the brewery says, he’s finally old enough to drink beer.
Scotty’s big party will take place on Saturday, April 11, complete with all the party classics — cake, balloons and streamers — and much more on tap. Starting at 2 p.m., the first 100 people who arrive in kilts will receive a complimentary Highland birthday glass. Giant beer pong and giant jenga will be set up in the meadow, food trucks will be onsite and bands will play throughout the day. There will also be a photo booth stocked with Highland gear in case you forget your bagpipes at home.
The cake cutting will be at 4 p.m., and the main event is at 6 p.m. — that’s when Highland will gather the participants in the Scotty look-alike contest. Stakes are high: The brewery will hand out two $200 Highland gift cards for awards, one for people’s choice and one for judges’ choice.
Of course, what brewery mascot birthday would be complete without beer? Highland says to expect a selection of flagship and small-batch beers flowing, including head brewer Hollie Stephenson’s West Coast-style double IPA. Available only at the brewery, the beer will be one of Highland’s hoppiest ever and a strong one at 10 percent ABV.
Registration for the Scotty look-alike contest closes on Wednesday, April 8. For more information on that and the event, visit the Highland website here.
