The sold-out 2016 Asheville Wing War took over the Crowne Plaza Resort on Sunday, Feb. 28. The fifth annual competition saw Mojo Kitchen and Lounge take top honors in both the Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice divisions of the specialty wings category. Foggy Mountain Brewpub was the judges’ favorite in the category for traditional wings, and Moe’s Original BBQ won the People’s Choice Award in that category.
The event also featured a wing eating contest in which competitors had to consume as many wings (prepared by Smoking J’s Fiery Foods) as possible within a two-minute time limit. The winner of that competition was Christian Gonzalez.
The full list of winners is as follows:
Specialty wings — Judges’ Choice:
First place: Mojo Kitchen and Lounge
Second place: Corner Kitchen
Third place: Luella’s BBQ
Specialty wings — People’s Choice:
Mojo Kitchen and Lounge
Traditional wings — Judges’ Choice:

I still can’t believe Foggy Mountain Brewpub didn’t win anything for specialty wing. Their chicken and waffle wings were amazing. Corner Kitchen had a Korean BBQ wing that tasted like Thai Peanut Sauce, and Mojo’s specialty wing was good but the dry rub felt like it would be on a whole chicken not for wings only.
My opinion for Specialty wings: 1st. Foggy Mtn. 2nd East Village Grill 3rd Mojos
100% totally agree!
wing wars is a complete rip off
We had a great time, I really like the Mojo wing, with Sumac & Ramp with Tzatziki sauce. The Music was Rockin’ the Beer was cols, and there wasn’t a Bad Wing in tha house.
