In Asheville, there is no shortage of great patios upon which to sip a mimosa and cure your hangover on a Sunday afternoon. But Seven Sows announced this week that they will be bringing us yet another as they expand their hours in preparation for warmer weather. Previously only open for dinner, the restaurant will now offer weekend brunch as well as a daily lunch service.
Chef Mike Moore and his crew will churn out brunch every Saturday and Sunday 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. And the menu looks quite promising, boasting offerings such as country-ham-wrapped dates and doughnut holes for starters. But what is most striking about their brunch menu is the tour-de-force litany of Southern standards and riffs on classics — the legendary Kentucky hot brown can be had for a mere $9. Or perhaps you might prefer the new bay crawfish and shrimp boil, a great nod to a Lowcountry classic. If none of those suit you, maybe the hash bowl with eggs, whey-fermented farro and dandelion aioli is more your speed. But with its extensive brunch menu, Seven Sows keeps with its tradition of offering the always welcomed chance to sample their signature Southern cuisine.
The Biltmore Avenue restaurant will also be serving lunch 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday-Friday. The lunch menu begins with an assortment of small plates, including the Seven Sow’s favorite hush puppies with pimento cheese, the house charcuterie board and several different salads. Entrees include a pulled pork shoulder barbecue sandwich, fried chicken with butter-bean honey and mac and cheese and a Benton’s bacon BLT.
Forget the pancakes and bloody mary. It sounds like Asheville’s new hangover cure might be a hot brown, whiskey on the rocks and a seat in the sunshine on the Seven Sows patio.
Seven Sows Bourbon & Larder is located at 77 Biltmore Ave. Lunch is served Monday-Friday from 11am-2pm, dinner is Monday-Saturday from 5pm-10pm and brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 10:30am-2:30pm.
