The second annual Wings and Strings WNC Wing Cook Off will be held Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15, at Pack Square in downtown Asheville. The party begins at 5 p.m. on Friday with live music from local and regional acts, food, and drinks including wine and — of course — beer. The event winds down at 9 p.m., then picks back up the following morning at 11 with a People’s Choice wing tasting, judging to see which local chef or restaurant wins prizes including trophies, cash and — perhaps most importantly — bragging rights. The festivities wrap up for good at 3 p.m. Admission for this event is free on Friday and only $1 on Saturday. Portions of all proceeds collected at this event go to Full Moon Farms, a wolf-dog rescue organization and sanctuary. For more information and a complete schedule of events, call 944-0054.
Downtown Asheville’s Cafe on the Square is now serving a Bluegrass Brunch every Sunday morning from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with live bluegrass music from noon until 2 p.m. Music is provided by Kevin Scanlon and Matthew Whitman of Tin Pan Alley. Brunch options include grilled baby brie, omelets, quiche and an ever-changing low-country style breakfast. Cafe on the Square is located at 1 Biltmore Ave. Call 251-5565 for more.
