Let’s do lunch: The Greenery Restaurant at 148 Tunnel Road, which specializes in “casual fine-dining,” will host three-course luncheons on three upcoming Wednesdays: March 30, April 13 and April 27. Love in any language: Kudos to Andy Lin, owner of Taipei Tokyo in Asheville and the Asian Grill in Hendersonville. He recently arranged for the Literacy Council of Buncombe County to provide free English-as-a-second-language classes to his Chinese-speaking employees. Two volunteer tutors, Cheryl and Lynn Dietrich, conduct the instruction on-site at Taipai Tokyo. “Lin’s objective,” a Literacy Council news release says, “is to provide his employees with a better opportunity than he had to learn English” when he moved to this country 20 years ago. “Lin is aware that with better English skills, many of his employees may leave the restaurant for better jobs, but he is more concerned with giving them this opportunity than with keeping his staff intact.”
Through the grapevine: The Purple Onion Cafe and Coffee House, a great little getaway in Saluda, will host a “Wines of Argentina” tasting on Wednesday, March 30. The event starts at 6:30 p.m., and the $28 price covers eight wines and hors d’oeuvres. Richard McKinney of Tryon Distributing will be on hand to discuss the wines.
