Tryon is the place to be for barbecue fans this weekend. The Blue Ridge BBQ & Music Festival is happening all day and well into the night on Friday and Saturday, June 13-14 at Tryon’s Harmon Field.
The Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned event will feature dozens of cooking teams from as far away as Florida and Alabama competing to make the best chicken, pork ribs, pork or beef brisket for cash awards, including a $2,500 grand prize. Six of the competitors will be selling their wares to the public, along with other vendors offering everything from corn-on-the-cob to shrimp and grits to wood-fired pizza.
But it’s not just about the food. There will also be two stages of live music, including appearances by the Honeycutters and the Aaron Burdett Band, as well as carnival rides and games, a juried craft fair, a NASCAR show car and simulator and cooking demonstrations by the Great American BBQ Cookout. Special events on Saturday include a classic car show, the Hawg Run for Fun motorcycle poker run and a grand finale fireworks display.
Admission is free for everyone 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, and is $8 per person for the rest of the festival. Ages 12 and younger are free with a paying adult throughout the festival, and active military are free with military identification.
Gates are open 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 13-14. The festival is at Harmon Field, Harmon Field Road, Tryon. Click here for details.
