These are not your ordinary love songs. And some aren’t actually love songs at all — Malcolm Holcombe’s “Pitiful Blues,” EDJ’s “For the Boy Who Moved Away” — but the emotions still apply.

• “Columbiana” by local space age-jazz outfit Hank West & the Smokin’ Hots, off last year’s Starship Nighthawk. That group has a number of shows coming up, including as part of Teatro del Gusto circus cabaret at The Orange Peel on Sunday, Aug. 17; and as part of DIG Festival on Friday, Aug. 22.
• “For the Boy Who Ran Away,” by Eric D. Johnson of Fruit Bats, from his solo album, EDJ. Johnson performs at Transfigurations II, at The Grey Eagle, on Thursday, Aug. 28.
