The description of WordLine‘s next show is fairly minimal: “Free event for UNCA students,” the local sci-fi rock band wrote on its Facebook invite. “Call to UNCA student artists, dancers and music fans. Paint, dance, create or simply observe. Live rock music and a multi-sensory experience … Bring your art supplies!”
But in a way, the show doesn’t require too much explanation. It’s a sort of come-as-you-are happening, blending visual art with sonic tapestries. WorldLine has long experimented with pushing the boundaries between performer and audience, onstage and off-stage and various artistic mediums. The band’s shows — like last year’s multi-sensory album release party at Isis Restaurant & Music Hall, involved an elaborate set with projection globes and live artists John Graham and Joshua Spiceland.
The upcoming UNC Asheville show takes the visual arts aspect one step farther, opening the floor to all creative types rather than an invite-only roster. So here’s your chance to dance or drawn, paint or hula-hoop, create spontaneous choreography or chronicle the whole evening in the pages of your journal.
