Ticket giveaway: Lettuce at New Mountain, July 25

Expansive Brooklyn-based funk band Lettuce hits the 20-year this year back and isn’t slowing down. The group (Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff and Eric Krasno on guitars, Adam Deitch on drums, Erick “Jesus” Coomes on bass, Ryan Zoidis on saxophones, Neal Evans on keys and Eric Bloom on trumpet) got its start at the Berklee College of Music. The group’s name comes not from a love of green salads but, as Smirnoff told Pop*Break, because “We would go to other people’s gig and we’d be like, ‘Damn, we really wanna play.’ And then maybe we’d ask them, ‘Hey, would you let us play your instruments?’”

Lettuce went on release a number of albums, and, as individual players and producers, work with the likes of 50 Cent, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Justin Timberlake, The Fugees, The John Scofield Band, Pretty Lights and more.

Lettuce performs at New Mountain on Friday, July 25, at 9 p.m. $18 advance/$22 doors. Asheville Horns opens.

Xpress is giving a way a pair of tickets to the show. To win, name your favorite Lettuce song in the comments field. A winner will be selected at random at 5 p.m. TODAY and contacted by email.
