What better way to appreciate art than with a fancy drink in hand? Nightbell, known for its swanky decor and inventive cocktail list that will have you googling ingredients (cherry balsamic shrub, anyone?), is hosting a night of music and poetry. The lineup includes performances from Chelsea LaBate of Ten Cent Orchestra, as well as poets Melissa Crowe, Luke Hankins and Leah Umansky. The event takes place Sunday, June 29 from 6-7:30 p.m. and is free to the public.
Asheville-based, “mystical folk pop” songwriter LaBate has released several albums, most recently Picking Through the Pawn Shop. She also performed two of her tunes for Xpress’ Sherwood Music video series in May. The three poets are sure to offer distinct and compelling readings. Crowe is the author of two poetry chapbooks, Cirque du Crève-Cœur: Prose Poems and Girl, Giant and is an editor at Beloit Poetry Journal. Hankins is the author of a collection of poems, Weak Devotions and serves as senior editor at Asheville Poetry Review. Umansky is known for her poems about the popular TV show, “Game of Thrones” and is the author of the “Mad Men” inspired chapbook Don Dreams and I Dream.
CDs and books will be available for purchase, cash or check only. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page or nightbell.com.
