Local dance troupe Lindsey Kelley Dance — headed by Florida native Kelley, an Asheville transplant since 2010, presents its first evening-length performance on Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10. Shows take place at the Masonic Temple at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 online or at the door.
The production, “Legend of the Shim Sham,” features “Coupe, reel to real (take two), Drift without Dwelling, PLUS a new series of solos and duets inspired by no other than … the Shim Sham,” according to a blog post. So, to find out what, exactly, the Shim Sham entails, you’ll have to go to the show.
Worth noting: Lindsey Kelley Dance gave one of the most engaging performances of this year’s RE{Happening}. Amy Borskey, Kala Hildebrand, Kathleen Hahn, Alexis Miller and Kelley blend modern dance with a keen sense of storytelling, off-kilter quirk and plenty of humor. It’s kind of LYLAS meets Terpsicorps at a clothing swap with really great wine — and it’s also totally its own thing.
