John McCutcheon in concert at Madison County Arts Center, May 4
John McCutcheon is no stranger to Madison County. Back in the 1970’s, as he began to hone his instrumental skills and learn the old songs, John traveled to Western North Carolina where he drank from the fountains of rich musical traditions.
These traditions became the foundation of a career which spans over 35 years. John is a repeat performer at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough. He has recorded 36 albums which have garnered 6 Grammy nominations.
“John really is the guy who brought the Hammered Dulcimer to national prominence,” remarked Laura Boosinger, the Executive Director of The Madison County Arts Council. “Johnny Cash called John the best instrumentalist he ever heard and Pete Seeger lauds him for his commitment to social activism.” His songwriting topics are as diverse as the story of the WWI soccer match between opposing armies on Christmas day or reflections drawn from raising two sons.
Whether in concert halls, coal camps, school auditoriums or the festival stage, John McCutcheon always delivers a heartfelt engaging performance.
