Local designers Amanda Boekhout of Elliott Elephant and Moe Donnelly of Sew Moe both use recycled fabrics and clothing to create artful apparel. Their upcoming Ingenerals Fashion Show, to be held at the Wedge Gallery (51 Roberts St., Asheville) on Saturday, Aug. 25, goes far beyond the basic reconstruction of previously worn clothing.

Boekout explains that the show’s designs are “inspired by the Victorian era, especially the dandy.” Dandies, or middle-class men obsessed with trends and creating unique, over-the-top styles, could be called the first metrosexuals.
The show also features an autumn palette, bustles for women, and punk-infused DIY ingenuity. Show time is 7 p.m.; tickets are $7 at the door. Photos by Jonathan Welch.
