Local designers and boutiques are taking to the runway—make that runways—for good causes: art and the earth.
The Asheville Area Arts Council rehashes its popular fundraiser ball again this summer (and this time, purple is the theme color). Get into the mood with the Purple Ball Fashion Show slated for Sunday, April 20, in the Renaissance Hotel’s Grand Ballroom. The show features party-worthy clothing from local designers and boutiques, along with a cash bar and music by DJ Fortune 500. 7 p.m. $15 general, $25 V.I.P. After-party at New French Bar. On Tuesday, April 22, Earth Day Asheville (presented by Quality Forward, held at The Orange Peel) also features fashion. All works presented feature low-impact elements such as recycled clothing and sustainable natural fibers. Spiritex and Poetic Justice by Marylou Marsh-Sanders, Sew Moe by Moe Erin Donnelly, Elliott Elephant by Amanda Boekhout, Rags Reborn Eco Chic Boutique, Little Eagle by Kaorico Ago, m. by Meredith Law, Frox by Roxanne Frue, Rachel Stak’s Red Moon Rising Studios and River T-C are included in the lineup. 7 p.m., $12. One more good deed: On Sunday, April 20, the just-opened Coldwater Creek Store (10 Brook St., Asheville) hosts Try It On for the Cure to benefit Local Affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
