The first Fair Trade Asheville Fashion Show was this past Saturday, May 7, in the Lexington Avenue Brewery’s back room. The clothing and accessories sent down the runway (by Ten Thousand Villages, Old North State Clothing Company, Beads & Seeds and Purl’s Yarn Emporium, all made by artisans in Ghana, India, Brazil, and Peru) were usable and practical, as well as subtly beautiful and perfect for summer. Models of all ages and sizes strutted their stuff on stage while a slide show was featured as the back drop for the show, flashing images of the artisans who had created the looks along with quotes from the artisans themselves. The show lasted for a little under an hour, and a consignment sale was held after with tables for each store.
