As the weather gets colder, the music heats up. At least that’s the case with Thursday nights at BoBo Gallery through the month of November. Local Afropop ensemble Zansa hosts West African Night at the downtown venue every Thursday (except Thanksgiving).
According to the band’s bio, “Zansa (a Nouchi slang word from the Ivory Coast meaning a blend) is a mix of traditional and modern styles from West Africa, America, and beyond.” The lineup is Adama Dembele (djembe, percussion, lead vocals), Casey Dean (drumset), Patrick Fitzsimons (electric guitar, vocals), Ryan Reardon (bass, vocals) and Matt Williams (electric and acoustic violins, vocals).
Zansa is currently at work on its debut album, due out by the end of the year. But they’re taking time out of the studio to perform a weekly show at BoBo gallery: “Members of Zansa will be performing, including 33rd generation djembe player Adama Dembele, as well as lots of our musician friends,” says a press release for the event. “We will have some drummers and dancers from the local troupes, as well. Also some modern West African dance music spinning in between live sets, and some video, too!” 8 p.m. start time.
