The name of Brooklyn-based collective Rubblebucket rolls off the tongue like a mouthful of marbles, but its quirky, energetic brand of indie-dance is a nimble tripping of the light fantastic.
The group is led by John Brown’s Body alums Alex Toth (trumpet, hyperkinetics, vocals and percussion) and Kalmia Traver (vocals, tenor and bari saxophones). The lineup includes Adam Dotson (trombone), Darby Wolf (synths, organ), David Cole (drums), Ian Hersey (electric guitar), Craig Myers (percussion, n’goni) and Jordan Brooks (bass).
This year, Rubblebucket played Bonnaroo (with a surprise appearance by Foster the People), collaborated with tUnE-yArDs and delivered “their raucous live show, along with giant robot puppets and love-tunnels, to larger and larger crowds across the US,” according to their bio. Just-released EP Oversaturated was recorded at Bear Creek (Fleet Foxes, Brandi Carlile).
Rubblebucket plays The Orange Peel on Thursday, Nov. 8, with Reptar. Stepdad opens the co-bill. The show is at 9 p.m., tickets are $15 in advance or $17 day of show. Xpress will give away a pair of tickets on Monday, in the noon hour, through Facebook.
