The ninth annual Hardlox Asheville’s Hardlox Jewish Festival returns on Sunday, Oct. 16. Festivities are free and run from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in in Pack Square.
From humble beginnings — a small-in-size but bit-in-heart cultural gathering based around the cleverly-named “Hard Lox Cafe” — the festival has grown to an enthusiastically-awaited event featuring dancing, music and (perhaps most importantly) food.
The Jewish food section on the Hardlox website lists “pastrami on rye, corned beef on rye, chopped liver sandwich, lox & cream cheese on a bagel, hummus platter, falafel on a pita, whitefish salad sandwich, potato latkes, potato knish, kosher dill pickle, homemade matzo ball soup, blintzes, noodle kugel, kosher hot dog, challah, babkas, macaroons, bialys, mandelbrot and black & white cookies.” So wear your stretchy pants.
Or, better yet, work off those matzo balls with street dancing, folk dancing and Klezmer music. There are also children’s activities, crafters and even free hugs. Read more about the festival here.
