St. Patrick’s Day is on a Tuesday this year, but that’s no reason to tone down the celebration. In fact, many local venues are opening early. Here’s where to go if you’re sporting a “Kiss me, I’m Irish” t-shirt:
• Tollivers Crossing (733 Haywood Rd., West Asheville, 505-2129) gets an early start with a traditional Irish breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. The all-day party continues with Irish whiskey, draft beer and Irish trivia games until 2 a.m. (Free.)
• Hannah Flanagan’s (27 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, 252-1922) offers all-day festivities from 11 a.m. with games, giveaways, prizes and trivia. (Free.)
• Jack of the Wood (95 Patton Ave., Asheville, 252-5445) kicks off the holiday at 1 p.m. with all-day Irish music sessions. Local Celtic group The Red Wellies play from 7-11 p.m. (Cover is $5.)
• Swing quartet The Space Heaters play a special St. Patty’s day set at Razcals (831 Old Fairview Rd., Asheville, 277-7117), starting at 6 p.m.
• Play “Are you smarter than a leprechaun?” at Wild Wing (161 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, 253-3066), and partake of Irish food and drink. 6 p.m. (Free.)
• At The Celo Inn (45 Seven Mile Ridge Road, Burnsville, 675-5132), Patrick and Cathy Sky present traditional jigs, reels, hornpipes, and songs from Ireland on Uilleann pipes, pennywhistle and fiddle. 8-10 p.m. ($10 at the door.)
• Eleven on Grove (11 Grove Street, Asheville, 505-1612) hosts a St. Patrick’s Day dance party with Lief Stevens and Orange Krush.
• The Stir Fry Cafe (1829 Hendersonville Road St. 10, Asheville, 505-4934) holds a St. Patty’s Day celebration with Irish house music.
