Thinking on Big Ears gives me festival envy, and now more than ever. It’s a savvy lineup in a series of intimate venues (including the magnificent Tennessee and Bijou theatres) and comes at just the right time of year — a redemption from winter, a prelude to summer.
Asheville’s own Ahleuchatistas and Villages have been added to the already stellar lineup (Sufjan Stevens, Vampire Weekend, The xx, The Ex, The National, Joanna Newsom, St. Vincent, William Basinki, The Books and a whole buncha others).
“Ahleuchatistas bring the intricate intensity of their searing “math rock” constructions across the mountain from Asheville, NC…performing shows on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons,” the Web site says.

In other Big Ears related news, Harvest Records has nabbed ambient sound artist Tim Hecker, who’s coming through on his way to the festival. He’ll play the BeBe Theatre (with David Daniell opening) on Wednesday, March 24. Tickets available here. More info on the show here.
