Tilting at the windmills of modern-day health care

On Saturday, Feb. 3, regional author Denise Mercado will sign copies of her recently released memoir They Created Us: Special Education, Medicaid Waivers, EPSDT, Independent Case Management at Barnes & Noble (83 E. South Tunnel Rd.). The book tells the story of a family’s journey through the disability world, caused by her son’s infection with meningitis as an infant. Anyone who has tried to navigate the labyrinth of the healthcare and disability bureaucracy may well find hope in Mercado’s story. Mercado will be signing from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 296-9330.
