You think Nashville and think country, right? But r&b/pop artist JaQuise is changing that.
According to Nashville Scene, “this weeks diamond in the rough is JaQuise, a Nashville native and a purveyor of sublimely sexy pop-r&b.” She writes most of her own material, garnering comparisons to Rhianna and Beyonce.
JaQuise appears at Tressa’s (28 Broadway St., Asheville, 254-7072) on Wednesday, July 21. She will be doing three shows, with the first show beginning at 9 p.m. $3.

Good Stuff Grocery (133 S. Main St., Marshall, 649-9711) hosts country rocker Gene Peyroux. Make that country/funk-rocker.
According to Peyroux’s chearful bio, “Gene Peyroux could quite possibly be the happiest guy in the world. He has a beautiful wife and great kids, AND he gets to play for a living! You can catch him at any number of fine venue in the Western North Carolina region. Gene likes to pick his guitars and mandolins and thump upon the bass. He also sometimes enjoys sitting in his studio, playing with his drum loops. He has fun singing songs and back-vocal harmonies. Skateboarding is also most, most cool. Rolling/sliding around on a board is just about the most fun one can have! Dogs are awesome. Gene happens to be aquainted with the most recent recipients of the coveted “Most Favored Dogs”, title; Gypsy and Rose. They are perfect puppies and fully deserving of praise and worship.
