If your only experience with chicken has been pan-fried, fricasseed, grilled or poached, you owe it to yourself to visit the Western North Carolina Nature Center.
The newest arrivals to the center’s Poultry Palace are Cochin bantam chickens, ornate little birds with feathery feet and mild demeanors. Other bantams pacing the palace include a red, a barred, and two golden lace Cochins as well as a silver Sebright, a breed so rare that it’s under watch by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.
For more information on these and other notable fowl, call the WNC Nature Center at 298-5600.
