The Vanishing Wheelchair, Inc. will showcase the talents of local citizens with disabilities at “Magic, Mirth and Meaning,” a magic show to benefit the nonprofit organization. This family-friendly evening will feature the talents of Ricky D. Boone, who uses magic and comedy to “make his disability a great ability.”
The organization was founded by Boone and author and theatrical performer T.J. Shimeld, who teaches the “art of misdirection to encourage the world to focus on another’s ability rather than one’s disability.” The program encourages young people to discover their talents and reach their full potential through magic.
A benefit show on Saturday April 20 will raise funds to establish a fully-accessible hands-on museum for local children. The goal is to help people with disabilities hone performance, painting, photography, music and wood working skills while teaching children about the arts and sciences.
A two-hour magic show and theatrical performance will be held at Toy Boat Community Art Space, 101 Fairview Road, on Saturday, April 20 at 7 p.m. Shows are held on the third Saturday of each month. $10 suggested donation. $5 children. Info and tickets: www.VanishingWheelchair.org or 645-2941.
