The following questions were culled from vintage Teen Beat interviews, circa mid-1980s. Xpress poses them to local music stars.
Mountain Xpress: How did you get into music?
Jon Morrow of Galen Kipar Project and The Odd Meters: I was about 5 and saw a Guns N’ Roses video. Slash made me want to play the guitar. I started getting active in music in school, and that was all she wrote.
Q: If you weren’t a musician, what would you want to be?
A: A counselor, goat herder or professional golfer.
Q: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
A: Nothing at all, I love myself. But maybe I wouldn’t drink as much as I do.
Q: Tell us about your car.
A: It’s a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. It has a huge trunk for gear, and has seen many, many states so far during our short relationship. It’s mostly filled with CDs, clothes, water bottles, and gear. I’m on the road a lot.
Q: Are you going to play a show in Tulsa?
A: Maybe one day.
Q: Who do you consider to be very cool?
A: My friend/teacher/mentor Jeff Sipe.
Q: Do you have a crush on anyone?
A: Oh yes. I totally have had a huge crush on the girl at Starbucks for like a year and a half, but I am way too shy to ask her out.
Q: What was the most perfect gift you ever received?
A: Life.
Q: What was the nicest thing you’ve ever done for your mom on Mother’s Day?
A: Maybe called or sent a card. I haven’t seen her on Mother’s Day for like 20 years.
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Studying new types of music. Golf, frisbee golf and sleeping.
Q: Describe your perfect day.
A: Wake up late, practice, eat, go play some frisbee golf, grow a set of balls so I can ask out the girl from Starbucks, take her out to dinner, and then go play a show.
Q: What’s something you refuse to eat?
A: Meat; it’s been nine years.
Q: If you had to choose one word to describe your life, what would that word be?
A: Odd.

A: Many blessings and much love to everyone during the holiday season.
