The following questions were culled from vintage Teen Beat interviews, circa mid-1980s. Xpress poses them to local music stars.
Mountain Xpress: How did you get into music?
Stacy Claude of bluegrass band Dehlia Low : Piano lessons at age 6, and church choirs .
Q: If you weren’t a musician, what would you want to be?
A: I’m a musician, but I also have to work full time, so I’d rather be a full-time musician.
Q: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
A: Better flatpicking skills.
Q: Tell us about your car.
A: It’s a piece of junk Nissan Sentra that has selective starting capacities. I got rear-ended and re-attached the bumper with epoxy. The trunk leaks. It’s a five-speed, but it does have a sticker that says, “Support your local musician.”
Q: Are you going to play a show in Tulsa?
A: Take me back to Tulsa, I’m too young to marry.
Q: Who do you consider to be very cool?
A: John Travolta.
Q: Do you have a crush on anyone?
A: Of course.
Q: What was the most perfect gift you ever received?
A: My dog, Sauce.
Q: What was the nicest thing you’ve ever done for your mom on Mother’s Day?
A: Travelled across the country and surprised her.
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Guitar, reading, hiking, walking the dog.
Q: Describe your perfect day.
A: Sleep ‘til 10 a.m., drink a press of strong coffee while reading, practice for an hour or two, work outside in the yard, meet friends for happy hour, eat a nice dinner, and go to a bluegrass jam.
Q: What’s something you refuse to eat?
A: Mayo.
Q: If you had to choose one word to describe your life, what would that word be?
A: Progressing.
