The Kontras Quartet hails from near and far. Its members are natives of Russia, South Africa, Japan and America and their diverse backgrounds shine through the group’s performances. The quartet’s adopted home is Hickory N.C. and the group is in its second year as the Hickory Metro Resident Quartet with the Western Piedmont Symphony.
This weekend’s concert features a stellar line up, including Schubert’s Quartettsatz in C minor, Ravel’s Quartet in F and Tchaikovsky’s String Quartet No. 1. The concert is part of the Hendersonville Chamber Music 2012 season. A recent press release describes the group as “one of the most vibrant string ensembles to emerge on the classical music scene.”
The concert will be held on Sunday, April 22, 3 p.m., at Hendersonville’s First Congregational Church, on the corner of Fifth Avenue and White Pine Drive. $17. Info: www.hendersonvillechambermusic.org.
