The Innersouls, up close and personal

In the early 1970s, funk in Asheville had a name: The Innersouls. The band’s story — along with an effort to revive the legacy of classic Carolina funk groups — is featured in this week’s cover story, “Bring that Beat Back.”

But wait … there’s more. A track from the Innersouls sole studio recording, “Just Take Your Time,” is now available online. The 1973 song, which appears on the new compilation Carolina Funk, can be heard here.

And a slideshow showing the group in its prime, along with fresh images of founder and leader Otis Ware, is available right here.
