We’re not sure if it’s a threat or a promise, but Asheville sketch comedy troupe The Feral Chihuahuas is only putting on two full-length shows this year. The first, billed as Awards Show, takes place next weekend, March 7 and 8 and 7:30 and 9:30 p.m., at NC Stage. Tickets are $14 in advance (online) and $18 at the door.
The Feral Chihuahuas are being kind of secretive about the production itself. The “brand new show of our 10th Anniversary Year is unlike anything we’ve done before,” they say on Facebook. And, “this will be the usual variety of comedy sketches along with the usual FREE BEER (21+ only) from our presenting sponsor Asheville Pizza & Brewing Co.” Also, there may or may not be Oscar-style award statuettes.
But the truth is, the Feral Chihuahuas don’t really need to bribe viewers with statuettes and complimentary libations. If past shows are anything to go on, this is a comedy troupe that puts on the kind of performance where viewers laugh until they’re light-headed anyway.
Less funny, more sweet: Brother Wolf returns as the Feral Chihuahuas’ charity sponsor once again, and the comedy troupe will raise funds at the shows for that organization. The Chihuahuas have also been posting cute dogs in need of homes on their Facebook page.
