A full, print-feature on The Baker Family Band, who relocated from Asheville to Austin last summer, will run in the Wednesday, June 23 issue of Xpress. But here’s a preview of what the band has been up to.
The band, fronted by husband and wife duo Stuart (singer/songwriter) and Liz (keyboards, backup vocals) Baker, tends to genre-hop and take risks. Each recording sounds nothing like the last (tracks on this podcast include “Bakers Can’t be Choosers” from 2008’s EP of the same name, and and “Seven” from last year’s Old Civilizations Put to the Sword. Here, Stuart Baker and guitarist Ben Dehart talk about what their latest sound is like and what the move to Austin has been like.
The Baker Family Band play The Grey Eagle on Friday, June 25, with Kovacs & the Polar Bear, John Wilkes Boothe & The Black Toothe and Ends of the Earth. 9 p.m., $8.
