Stiletto is a four-day intensive salsa and Latin dance retreat for women, offering an array of classes like “hip hop for salsa divas,” “lyrical dance for salseras” and “musicality and timing.” Organized by Maria Voisin, director and founder of Salseros 828 Latin Dance School and Dulcinea Modern Latin Company in Asheville, and Susan Zaglin, director of Salsa Greenville S.C., the retreat aims to establish a creative and playful environment for women of the Appalachian Mountains to immerse themselves in a Latin, Caribbean and Cuban-inspired dance culture.
Eight female choreographers and teachers from across the Southeast will lead workshops on salsa-dance techniques and share secrets of the trade at the retreat, which will be held Thursday, Aug. 26 through Sunday, Aug. 29. Though Stiletto is a ladies-only experience, there will be a co-ed “epic salsa dance party that lasts till dawn” held on Saturday, Aug. 28, starting with “Stiletto mixer performances” at 10 p.m.
The retreat will be held at Camp Merri-Mac in Black Mountain. An all inclusive pass costs $275 and includes all dance classes and activities. Day passes range from $40 to $125 dollars. For more information and a complete schedule of workshops and classes offered at Stilleto, click here.
