The new year is the perfect time to clean out your closet. Yes, it’s a pain to rummage through those old sweaters and tattered scarves, but it’s surprisingly easy to turn them into something new.
Hip Thrift, 201 Haywood Road, is opening its doors to all unwanted, torn or stained clothes for an upcycled clothing swap. Anyone is welcome to pick up items of clothing and stitch them into a new creation. It’s free to drop off and pick up clothes of any kind.
“It [the swap] is helping to invoke sustainable practices and reduce waste. It also supports local artists by giving them free supplies, “ says Amy Williams of Hip Thrift.
The treasure chest is overflowing with items, so now’s the time to rid your closet of mom jeans and mock turtlenecks and pick up something new. The store is open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and the program is ongoing. www.hipthrift.org or 423-0853.
