You’re probably familiar with singer-songwriter Chelsea Lynn La Bate’s Ten Cent Poetry. La Bate came to Asheville from the New York City anti-folk scene; her live shows are not only vehicles for her particular brand of musicality and quirk, but for projections, animations and fashion.
Now La Bate dreams even bigger — with the Ten Cent Orchestra, which debuts on Thursday, Dec. 20 at The Lab. “A year in the making, Chelsea Lynn La Bate and classical composer Silas Durocher have joined creative forces to
bring to you an unique blend of the richness of classical instrumentation delicately blended with the freshness of contemporary song writing,” says the invite for the event. “Come indulge in Ten Cent Poetry favorites, several from the album Picking Through the Pawn Shop with soul stirring violins, violas and cellos.”
Doors are at 7:30, show starts at 8 p.m. $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
This is not Durocher’s first foray into composing for strings. Read about his project, The Lovestruck Suckers (a collaboration with members The Opal Quartet) here.
