Smart bets web extra: Sol Driven Train

Really, beyond this photo, what can we really say? You’ve gotta love a band that knows how to strike a Saturday Night Fever pose. And can pair a camo trucker cap with a leisure suit. Sol Driven Train (Ward Buckheister on guitar, trombone, and vocals; Rusty Cole on bass and vocals; Wes Powers on drums; Russell Clarke on saxophones and vocals; Joel Timmons on guitar and vocals) comes from Charleston (which is awesome) and says its music “weaves through genres like images in a Tom Robbins paragraph.” Which is awesome. They write funky, rhythmic and charmingly weird songs and put on energetic live shows that fans can’t seem to get enough of.

Sol Driven Train plays Asheville Music Hall on Saturday, Feb. 4. Uncle Mountain opens. 10 p.m., $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Or win a pair of tickets to the show tomorrow around noon by following Xpress on Facebook.
