Megafaun is currently touring behind (and getting major press for) their self-titled album. ” And their live show has been called “inspirational,’” reveals the trio’s publicist.
The Durham-based group (Bradley Cook, Phillip Cook and Joseph Westerlund) doesn’t have anything as pedestrian as a bio, and their website is a Tumblr, but somehow those laissez-faire trappings make sense with the band’s loose acoustic instrumentation and tongue-in-cheek approach to songwriting. They remind, a bit of Asheville’s Now You See Them — though it’s another local band, River Whyless, who will support Megafaun at their Saturday, Nov. 12 Grey Eagle show. (9 p.m., $10.)
Here are some facts about the band: All three members are from Wisconsin. According to Wikipedia,“They first met at the H.O.R.D.E. festival in 1997” though a decade passed before they were called Megafaun and released that band’s debut. Though self-titled albums are often debut albums, in Megafaun’s case their namesake record, released on Hometapes, is the band’s fourth.
