Smart bets web extra: Ascetic Junkies

Portland, Ore.-based Ascetic Junkies (Kali Giaritta and Matt Harmon) are a psyche-pop duo who describe themselves as having “more than a passing interest in Americana, noise, and psychedelic song structure quirks.”

They also promise to surprise audiences with just how much sounds they can bring to the stage — a worthy challenge, indeed. Giaritta and Harmon have also set their sights on touring hard and releasing a new collection of songs in 2013. The start the year with a stop at Jack of the Wood on Tuesday, Jan. 8. 10 p.m., by donation.
