Nora Jane Struthers considers herself a “storyteller, first and foremost,” and she’s a good one, too. Her songs are witty, heartfelt and steeped in American history — and it doesn’t hurt that you can dance to them. She will tell her tales onstage with the help of her high-energy acoustic Americana band, The Party Line, at Isis Music Hall on Saturday, March 1.
Watch Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line perform “Carnival,” the title track from the band’s 2013 album.
The band has been touring heavily in support of its 2013 album, Carnival, which boasts literate and danceable roots-rock songs. “When you go to a carnival, you go into a sideshow tent, and on every stage you find a different person with a different story,” says Struthers in a press release. “That’s what I’m trying to do with this album — craft vignettes, and in some cases more developed narrative, about imaginary people’s lives.”
The Nashville-based quintet includes Joe Overtion (claw hammer banjo and harmony vocals), Drew Lawhorn (drums), Nick DiSebastian (upright bass and guitar) and Jack Devereux (fiddle).
