The self-described “renegade traditionalists” of N.C-based trio Mipso say they’re “doing their part to take three-part harmony and Appalachian influences into new territory.” So far so good. INDY Week credited Mipso with “expanding the vocabulary of common touchstones” for bluegrass music. Meanwhile, songs like “Carolina Calling” (video below) will warm the heart of any N.C-dweller.
The newly post-grad members of southern-style string band — Jacob Sharpe on mandolin, Joseph Terrell on guitar and Wood Robinson on double bass — met at UNC Chapel Hill. By the time the musicians hit graduation day, they were selling out local shows and preparing to take their sound on the road. The band will make a stop at Isis Music Hall on Saturday, April 5 at 8:30 p.m. Chris Eldridge also performs. $12/$15.
