Xpress received word from Andrew Platt, brother of Amanda Platt (frontwoman for the Honeycutters), that he’s bringing his band skeletonbreath to Asheville on Wednesday, Jan. 14, for a 10 p.m. show at the New French Bar.
Here’s what he says:
“Equal parts chamber ensemble, raging rock group, and eastern inflected string band, NYC/Philly instrumental trio skeletonbreath has carved out a unique place in modern music that belongs to them alone. Armed with only violin, bass, and drums the band has gained a reputation for an intense live show that often results in broken floors, limbs, and countless violin bows.
The band self released their first full length record Louise in 2006, and spent the whole year on tour, racking up hundreds of shows in the US and Canada. Equally at home in large concert halls and tiny basements, they quickly became known as a band who would, and could, play just about anywhere. In 2007 work began on a follow up to Louise, with the band entering Vibromonk studios in Brooklyn to work with Danny Shatzky (Gogol Bordello, Balkan Beat Box, World Inferno Friendship Society). The new record embellished the straight trio sound of Louise through the use of organ, piano, guitars, and violinist Robert Pycior’s extensive multi-tracking, resulting in a new persona for the band. Constantly being revised, the album was not finished until late in 2008, when the band signed to Ernest Jenning Records, who will release the album in March of 2009.”
